Listancold Syrup

Categories: Syrup

Description:

Cheston Cold Syrup is a symptomatic treatment for common cold and allergic rhinitis, providing quick relief from upper respiratory symptoms. Cetirizine targets allergy responses, paracetamol eases pain and fever, and phenylephrine clears nasal passages. It starts working within 30-60 minutes and lasts 4-6 hours. The syrup form is easy to administer, especially for children, but it does not cure the underlying infection—use for short-term relief (3-5 days). Shake well before use and measure with the provided cup. Available in 60 ml bottles; consult a doctor for persistent symptoms.

Active Salts (Composition):

  • Cetirizine Hydrochloride (2 mg per 5 ml) – A second-generation antihistamine that blocks histamine H1 receptors, reducing allergic symptoms like sneezing, itching, and runny nose by inhibiting histamine release from mast cells.
  • Paracetamol (125 mg per 5 ml) – An analgesic and antipyretic that works centrally in the brain to relieve pain and reduce fever by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis.
  • Phenylephrine Hydrochloride (2.5 mg per 5 ml) – A decongestant that acts as an alpha-1 adrenergic agonist, causing vasoconstriction in nasal blood vessels to reduce swelling and congestion.

This is an oral syrup formulation (often strawberry-flavored) combining an antihistamine, pain reliever/fever reducer, and decongestant for multi-symptom relief from colds and allergies. It is suitable for both adults and children (above 2 years), with a sugar base that may vary by variant.

Uses and Benefits:

Cheston Cold Syrup is used to manage acute symptoms of viral colds, seasonal allergies, or upper respiratory allergies, offering comprehensive relief without antibiotics. Key uses and benefits include:

  1. Common Cold Symptoms:
  • Use: Relieves runny nose, sneezing, nasal congestion, and mild cough from viral infections.
  • Benefits: Clears airways for easier breathing, reducing discomfort and improving sleep; phenylephrine decongests within 15-30 minutes.
  1. Fever and Body Aches:
  • Use: Reduces low-grade fever and headache/muscle pain associated with colds or flu.
  • Benefits: Lowers temperature by 1-2°C within 1 hour and eases aches, allowing better rest and faster recovery without opioid risks.
  1. Allergic Rhinitis (Hay Fever):
  • Use: Controls seasonal allergy symptoms like watery eyes, itching, and sneezing triggered by pollen or dust.
  • Benefits: Blocks 70-80% of histamine effects, providing all-day relief with minimal drowsiness compared to first-generation antihistamines.
  1. Nasal Congestion and Sinus Pressure:
  • Use: Eases stuffy nose and sinus discomfort from colds or allergies.
  • Benefits: Reduces swelling in nasal passages, preventing sinus headaches and improving focus during daily activities.
  1. Watery Eyes and Itching:
  • Use: Soothes eye and throat irritation from allergens or irritants.
  • Benefits: Quickly diminishes itching and tearing, enhancing comfort for outdoor or allergen-exposed environments.
  1. Supportive Relief in Children:
  • Use: Manages cold/allergy symptoms in kids (2+ years) during seasonal changes.
  • Benefits: Pleasant taste encourages compliance, helping prevent dehydration from symptoms and supporting immune recovery.

Dosage and Administration:

  • Adults and Children (>12 years): 10 ml (2 teaspoons) every 4-6 hours, up to 4 times daily.
  • Children (6-12 years): 5-10 ml (1-2 teaspoons) every 4-6 hours, as prescribed.
  • Children (2-6 years): 2.5-5 ml (½-1 teaspoon) every 4-6 hours, under medical supervision.
  • Children (<2 years): Not recommended.
  • Take orally with or without food; do not exceed 4 doses in 24 hours. For fever, paracetamol component limits total daily intake to 60 mg/kg. Duration: 3-5 days max; consult a doctor for adjustments in renal/hepatic issues or if symptoms persist.

Side Effects:

Common (usually mild and short-lived):

  • Drowsiness, dry mouth, or dizziness (from cetirizine).
  • Nausea, stomach pain, diarrhea, or headache (from paracetamol).

Less common/rare:

  • Restlessness, blurred vision, or increased heart rate (from phenylephrine).
  • Serious: Allergic reactions (rash, swelling, breathing difficulty), severe liver damage (overdose of paracetamol), or high blood pressure—seek immediate help.

Most resolve spontaneously; avoid if side effects worsen.

Precautions and Warnings:

  • Allergies: Avoid if allergic to cetirizine, paracetamol, phenylephrine, or other components.
  • Pregnancy/Breastfeeding: Use only if prescribed (Category B for cetirizine/paracetamol; limited data for phenylephrine)—small amounts pass into breast milk, potentially causing infant drowsiness.
  • Other Conditions: Inform your doctor of glaucoma, high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, hyperthyroidism, prostate enlargement, kidney/liver issues, or asthma. Elderly patients may experience more drowsiness or confusion. Not for chronic cough or with MAO inhibitors.
  • Drug Interactions: May interact with alcohol (increases drowsiness), sedatives, antidepressants, blood pressure meds, or other paracetamol-containing products (overdose risk). Space from MAOIs by 14 days.
  • Limit alcohol; avoid driving if drowsy. Monitor blood pressure; do not use long-term to prevent rebound congestion.
